A new mug

So today I got a new mug. I didn't buy it for the purpose of adding another to my collection. In fact, I don't really ever buy mugs just for the sake of furthering my collection. But as I was driving home I started thinking about all my mugs and how my collection grew, so I decided to dedicate my next post to explaining why my blog is titled "Reflections from a Coffee Mug".

When deciding what to title my blog I was hit with a bad case of creative block. I had complete creative freedom and although I usually LOVE that, I did not that night.  My blog doesn't really have a theme, only that I write about things I love and that bring me happiness in hopes that they do the same to you! So that created even an even greater freedom for a title choice. And then my mom mentioned my collection of coffee mugs, and that idea sat on my mind for a good while.

After awhile I realized that it had everything I wanted in a title. It was funny with the irony that I don't actually drink coffee, honest because I do have a collection, happy because of all the memories attached to them, and similar to me in that they sit around serving as third party observers, which is like me because I love reflecting on things I see!

Also something my old youth minister had said to me a few weeks ago, had just stuck with me lately. We were talking about bonding nights with roommates and she said: "When I was in college we used to leave a note on the door that said 'Friends at 8. Bring your mug!". When she said that, I started thinking about all the fun moments I have had snuggled up with a cozy blanket, a good book or movie, and a warm coffee mug (filled with hot chocolate of course :). And those have been some really beautiful moments in my life, simply because they were effortlessly wonderful.

So! My blog title was born. I was so excited! So excited to share my reasoning behind the name, the good times I have had using mugs, and the specific ones I have collected over the years!

In the near future I will post pictures of all my mugs and share some fun stories about them! But until then, try thinking about the last time you sat with friends, wrapped yourselves up in blankets, and reminisced with a coffee mug in your hand. Or the last time you went and sat outside, looked at a beautiful view, and just simply reflected on your life with a coffee mug in hand. If its been awhile (or even if it was just yesterday) I encourage you to grab some friends or just a blanket, fill up your coffee mug and reminisce and reflect on your life and the things that bring you peace and happiness. Everyone needs moments like that.
